Box Score
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford Terriers scored six runs in the first two innings in the 7-5 win in the opening game of the series Friday night at Russell C. King Field in Southern Conference baseball action.
The 'Cats fought back in the fourth as senior Chase FitzPatrick drew a walk to lead off the inning. Senior Pat Brady ripped a double to deep left center to score FitzPatrick. After moving to third on a groundout, Brady scored on an error bringing the score to 6-2.
In the Wildcats' fifth, senior second baseman Zach Kayne singled and scored on a passed ball, cutting the deficit to 6-3.
Wofford added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the closest the 'Cats would come was 7-5 in the top of the eighth as freshman Drew Gadaire and senior Chris FitzPatrick recorded RBI groundouts.
Despite three scoreless innings by the Wildcat bullpen, the 'Cats offense couldn't muster the final two runs, and the 'Cats will try to even the series tomorrow at 1pm. Scott Summers improved to (3-1) for the Terriers and Thomas Middour fell to (2-1) for the 'Cats.
Davidson drops to an even 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the Southern Conference, while Wofford improves to 9-8 overall and 2-2 in the league.
