Box Score
DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Wildcats rallied from a 10-6 deficit with a four-run eighth to force extra innings, but dropped an 11-10 decision in 10 innings to the Cincinnati Bearcats Friday at Wilson Field.
The Bearcats (1-3) picked up their first win of the season, while the Wildcats drop to 4-2.
Trailing 10-6 entering the eighth, the Wildcats strung together five hits for four runs to knot the score. Senior right fielder Chase FitzPatrick hit a one-out single into left field to start the Wildcat rally and bumped around to second on a wild pitch. Senior left fielder Pat Brady legged out a triple on a ball hit into the right-center field gap to plate FitzPatrick.
Sophomore pinch hitter Sam Payne doubled into left center field to send in Brady, and senior third baseman Chris FitzPatrick drilled a two-out 0-0 pitch into the hole at second base to send in Payne to cut the lead to 10-9.
Senior second baseman Zach Kayne followed with a single to the first base side, and a fielding error allowed him to move to second while FitzPatrick scored to tie the game at 10.
With the score all tied up, center fielder Cameron Satterwhite led off the extra frame with a double down the right field line, and third baseman Mike Spina walked.
Kayne took the mound in relief of sophomore Mike Frongello (0-1), who was tagged with the loss after allowing the winning run in 2/3 of an inning. Lance Durham drew a walk to load the bases, and though Kayne coaxed a pop out out of pinch hitter Beach Brooks, Satterwhite scored what proved the game-winner.
Reliever Dan Jensen (1-0) took the win for Cincinnati, after pitching a hitless 2 1/3 innings to close the game.
Chase FitzPatrick paced the Wildcat offense, going 3-for-5 at the plate, including a pair of home runs, with three RBI and three runs scored. Kayne also finished the day batting 3-for-5 with an RBI.
The Wildcats and Bearcats will return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. and finish the weekend with a 1 p.m. double header on Sunday.
