Radford Withstands Strong Davidson Attack

RADFORD, Va. – The Davidson field hockey team pressured Radford throughout Saturday afternoon's NorPac conference match, but was unable to break through the East division's top defense, falling 4-0 in the home-and-home series finale at RU Field Hockey Field.
The Wildcats (4-11, 0-4 NorPac East) outshot Radford, 17-11 and held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners, but Radford goalkeeper Jennifer Wisniewski answered with nine saves, while Megan Lenhardt recorded a defensive save.
Wisniewski entered the contest as the top keeper in the NorPac East division with a goals against average of 2.36. Sophomore Christine Rua (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the 'Cats with four shots on goal.
Radford (8-7, 4-0 NorPac East) scored three goals in the first half before adding one in the second. Madonna Wadolowski scored the first at 12:36, ripping a shot from the right side.
Radford added two quick goals later in the half. Jennifer Balka scored on a backhand shot through the five-hole, assisted by Niamh Connolly, at 24:46. About three minutes later, Melissa Register dove to knock in a pass from Wadolowski. Lynsey Daughtry tallied Radford's fourth goal with less than six minutes remaining in the game, deflecting a shot in front of the goal.
Senior goalkeeper Christa Goeke (Princeton, N.J.) started for the 'Cats, making two saves and allowing three goals, before freshman Sarah Fisher (Fredricksburg, Va.) entered in the 28th minute. Fisher made two saves and allowed one goal in goal.
Radford had previously defeated the 'Cats, 3-1 on Wednesday night at Belk Turf Field
The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday when they seek to avenge an early season loss to Appalachian State. The Mountaineers will take on the 'Cats at 12 p.m. at Belk Turf Field.
