
Wildcat W. Tennis Takes Home Two 7-0 Victories

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson wins tennis team scored its third and fourth straight wins of 7-0 with victories over visiting Wingate and Queens on Saturday afternoon at the Knobloch Tennis Center on the campus of Davidson College.
The Wildcats ran their 2008 record to 5-1 with the two wins, while Wingate and Queens both fell to 0-2 on the season.
Davidson dropped just one doubles game and a combined six singles games in the two matches on Saturday afternoon.
Finish the day with perfect 2-0 marks in singles play was junior Lora Dushanova and freshman Samantha Galainena at the No. 4 and 5 spots. Neither Wildcat dropped a game in taking two 6-0, 6-0 sets over their opponents. Dushanova also teamed with Meredith Skeeters at the No. 3 doubles spot in the first match vs. Wingate, taking home an 8-0 win to help Davidson take the doubles team point on its way to the 7-0 victory.
Galainena was seeing her first spring collegiate action after capturing two individual singles titles in the fall.
Also playing for the first time this spring was junior Emily Wilkinson, who defeated Ashley Keefer of Wingate at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2, for her first victory of 2008.
Picking up her team-best fourth singles win of the season was senior Kim Whelan when she secured a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against Queens' Skye Powell. Two of those wins have come at the No. 2 singles position.
Finally, earning their third wins of the season in singles play was Skeeters, junior Michelle Fanney, and the sophomore combo of Teresa Wang and Virginia Berry.
Davidson hits the road for its next two matches, starting with a trip to No. 60 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m.
