DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior Britti Himelfarb struck on a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Davidson field hockey team to a 5-1 win over rival Appalachian State in front of a season-high crowd of 357 at Belk Turf Field Wednesday night.

Himelfarb opened up the scoring for the Wildcats in the 12th minute when she connected on a chip shot that went over the right shoulder of the Appalachian goalkeeper and into the back of the net. She closed out the offensive night with her second goal of the game and her fifth of the season, a five-yard shot from the middle of the penalty circle that was set up from a crossing pass by teammate Kathelijn van der Ven to put the 'Cats up 5-1.

The Dallas, Texas native then notched her fifth assist of the year when she set up Clare Perry's goal at the 53:52 mark, a strike from the top of the circle into the lower right corner of the goal. Himelfarb now has 15 points overall, the top mark on the squad, while Perry's fourth goal of the season ties her with van der Ven for second place.

Fellow senior Tyler Kirkland kept up her impressive season at the 13:59 mark of the first half, when she collected a rebounded shot on the left side of the goal and put it past the defense and into the net to give Davidson a 2-0 lead. It was Kirkland's fifth goal of the year, tying her with Himelfarb for the team lead. She has also needed just six shots to accumulate her scoring strikes, for an impressive shot percentage of .833.

With her goal in the 58th minute, van der Ven joined the double-digit scoring group, moving into second place in the team rankings with her fourth goal and 13th point in 2008. The freshman, who is making a strong case for NorPac Rookie of the Year honors, is either first or second on the team in six different offensive categories for the season.

As a team, Davidson dominated the statistical comparison, out-shooting the Mountaineers by a 19-5 margin, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. The 'Cats also took four penalty corners to Appalachian's three.

With the win, the Wildcats improved to 5-12 on the season, and ensure a winning record at home, moving to 5-3 at Belk Turf Field with one game remaining. They have now won back-to-back contests, and three of their last four home games by a combined score of 17-5.

The 'Cats will round out their NorPac regular season when they take on Radford this Saturday for Senior Day. The seven Wildcat seniors will be honored prior to the 12:30 contest in the last home game of their careers, and also the last NorPac game before heading to the conference tournament.
