Box Score

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Playing in her last home game for Davidson, senior Britti Himelfarb notched her second consecutive two-goal performance, helping lead the Wildcats to a 2-1 Senior Day victory over Radford Saturday afternoon at Belk Turf Field.

After a scoreless first 34:28 of play, Himelfarb gathered a deflected shot on the left side of the goal and fired in an strike into the back of the net to put Davidson up, 1-0, with 32 seconds to play in the first half. Her score was one of only four shots taken by both teams in the first 35 minutes of action, and gave the 'Cats the lead going into the half.

Radford tied the game at one in the 41st minute, when Kay Tufts took a misplayed outlet pass by the Davidson defense, dribbled in, and took a shot from three yards out into the right side of the goal for her third goal of the year.

The 'Cats regained the lead for good just under three minutes later on Himelfarb's team-leading seventh goal of the season. In a textbook give-and-go with teammate Kathelijn van der Ven, Himelfarb collected a pass from the right side of the penalty box into the middle of the goal, where she put the ball past the Radford goalkeeper from four yards out to push the score to 2-1. The Dallas, Texas native now leads the squad in goals and points, and is tied for the top spot with two game-winning goals. Van der ven, who has a pair of game-winners of her own, took sole possession of the team lead with her sixth assist of the season.

Fellow senior Brittany Rollek made the start for Davidson between the pipes, and recorded a pair of saves in the win, keeping the Highlanders off the scoreboard for the first 40 minutes of play, and fending off a number of Radford comeback attempts.

Three Wildcats had a pair of shot attempts in the contest, with Himelfarb, van der Ven, and freshman Hannah English leading the team. Senior Tyler Kirkland and junior Liz Luckey each recorded one scoring chance as well.

Prior to the game, the seven Davidson seniors were honored for their impact on the program and the school over the past four years. Himelfarb, Rollek, Kirkland, Sarah Addison, Lauren Calve, Molly Palilonis, and Sara Stevens all made the start for the 'Cats, and helped set the tone early with their strong play on both sides of the field.

As a team, Davidson out-shot Radford 8-5 on the game, including a 6-3 advantage in the second half. Both teams took five penalty corners and had four shots on goal as well.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 6-12 on the season, and pick up their first NorPac win, moving to 1-5 in the conference. They also close out their home schedule with a 6-3 record, including three consecutive home victories by a combined score of 14-3. Radford drops to 8-10 overall, and 3-3 in the NorPac.

Davidson will round out the 2008 regular season when they travel up to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on defending National Champion North Carolina, on Nov. 2. Game time for the Wildcats and the No. 5 Tar Heels is scheduled for 2 p.m.
