DAVIDSON, N.C. — Junior Courtney Hart (Ashland, Mass.) and sophomore Callan Elswick (Locust Grove, Va.) each knocked in their first goals of the season, and the Wildcats continued their strong run through the Southern Conference with another shutout win, this time by the count of 4-0 over Appalachian State on Thursday evening infront of a crowd of 570 at Alumni Stadium.

Davidson ran its record to 6-1-0 in league action, taking home its fifth win in the past six contests, and improved to 8-3-3 overall. The Wildcats also continued their solid season at home, moving to 5-1-2 on the year, and 19-5-2 in the past three seasons.

Appalachian State fell to 5-7-2 overall and 1-5-1 in SoCon play.

Since starting league play on Sept. 25, Davidson has been clicking on all cylinders both offensively and defensively, and both sides were on display again Thursday night. With their four goals on the night, the Wildcats have scored 23 of their 31 total goals in the past seven games. During that time, the defense has allowed just three goals and have five shutouts.

Davidson wasted no time in jumping on the Mountaineer defense, who were on their heels all evening, scoring twice in the first three minutes of the game to grab control.

Hart got the scoring started when she gathered in a loose ball outside the 18-yard box and struck a low-liner to the far post for her third career goal at the 2:09 mark.

Shortly thereafter, junior Kyri Bye-Nagel (Hanna, Germany), who has been a key leader in the Wildcats' offensive surge, netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season at the 3:36 mark. Senior co-captain Tracy McCausland played give-and-go with Bye-Nagel, who fired off a shot to the near-post net to put the Wildcats up 2-0. The junior forward has now scored six goals in the past nine games, including three in the her last two contests.

Elswick capped off the first-half scoring by recording a rebound goal after two Wildcat shots were denied by goalkeeper Caroline Clarke of ASU, but Clarke never get a handle on the ball, allowing Elswick to square up on a rebound shot in the goalkeeper box for her second career score.

Davidson picked up 14 of its game-high 25 shots in the first half, finding the back of the net three times.

Senior Tiffany Mumby (Houston, Texas) finished off the evening's scoring in the 68th minute with her third goal of the season, and second in as many games, when she got a pass from junior Blakely Low (San Antonio, Texas) in the box and had a wide-open look at the goal, placing a hard shot to the near post that found the back of the net.

The Wildcats' defense took care of the rest as ASU never got a clean look at goal all evening. The defense clapped down especially in the second half, holding the Mountaineers to just three shots.

Freshman Christy Carry (Dallas, Texas) and junior Loring Ward (Charleston, S.C.) combined for the shutout and earned seven saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Clarke (7) and Emma White (1) earned a combined eight saves for the Mountaineers, who did have a game-high eight corner kicks, but never were able to capitalize on them.

Davidson finishes off its home slate of games with a 2 p.m. Senior Day contest against SoCon-foe Western Carolina on Sunday at Alumni Stadium. Currently, the Catamounts are right behind the Wildcats in third place in the league with a 5-1-0 record.
