DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson's backcourt of Jason Richards (21), Stephen Curry (20) and Bryant Barr (23) combined for 64 points, and the Wildcats hit nine second-half 3-pointers to cruise by The Citadel 95-74 in Southern Conference basketball action Thursday evening at John M. Belk Arena.
The victory for the Wildcats ends a three-game skid as they improve to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the league, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-5 and 0-2.
The Davidson trio combined to go 14-for-23 from 3-point range. Seniors Boris Meno and Thomas Sander each recorded nine points, and Meno corralled eight rebounds, including seven at the offensive end.
Davidson jumped out to a 25-14 advantage following one of Barr's three first-half buckets from long range. The two teams traded buckets the remainder of the stanza to head into the break deadlocked at 39-39.
Both clubs shot the ball well in the opening 20 minutes of action, but it was The Citadel's 7-of-10 showing from long range that kept the Bulldogs in the contest.
Tied at 47-47 with 17:13 left, Davidson wasted little time stretching the game to 19 points (72-53) in its favor, thanks to a 25-6 flurry that included seven buckets from downtown, three of which came from Barr. The 'Cats stretched the margin to 27, its largest of the game, on a pair of Curry free throws.
Davidson shot a blistering 62.1 percent from the field in the second half, making 18-of-29 attempts. The Wildcats also picked up their defense and held the Bulldogs to 36.4 percent from the floor on 12-of-33 shooting.
