Highlanders Spoil Senior Day with 3-0 win over 'Cats

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Radford Highlanders scored three second-half goals and played spoiler on senior day with a 3-0 win over the Davidson Wildcat field hockey team on Saturday at Belk Turf in the team's regular-season finale.

The Wildcats finish the regular season with a 9-8 overall record while Radford improves to 6-12.

Seniors Eleanor Cowley, Ginnie Friddell, Kayli Maxwell, Catherine Ransone, Misty Stallings and Jen Willis were honored in post-game ceremonies, but unfortunately the 'Cats didn't have the opportunity to also celebrate a victory.

Megan Longtain scored a pair of goals for the Highlanders, getting her first score in the 47th minute on a long pass from Stephanie McLamb and her second in the 66nd minute off a penalty corner from Allison Mowry. Mowry also scored Radford's second goal in the 61st minute on a penalty stroke.

Sophomore Christa Goeke played the first half in goal for the 'Cats, making a pair of saves, and sophomore Mary Clay had four saves in the second period.

Stephanie Wisniewski and Jennifer Wisniewski split halves for the Highlanders.

Both teams had 13 shots, but Radford had 10 corners to five for the 'Cats.

Davidson will now ready itself for the 2007 NorPac tournament on the campus of Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. from Nov. 1-4.
