LAST TIME OUT
Davidson opened its 2026–27 regular season on the road, dropping a competitive 71–65 decision at Columbia in Levien Gymnasium. The Wildcats went back and forth with the Lions in a tight contest, trailing 35–33 at halftime and holding within a single point (50–49) heading into the fourth quarter before Columbia pulled away late with a 21-point final frame.
Preseason All-A-10 guard Katie Donovan paced the Wildcats with a game-high 22 points (8-18 FG, 4-4 FT) while pulling down 7 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists, and recording a block in 37 minutes. Kyra Bruyndoncx scored 15 points (7-16 FG) and disrupted Columbia's offense all morning, recording a career-high 5 steals to go along with 6 rebounds. Point guard Elena Alvarez dished out a team-high 7 assists in her start, while freshman Lilli Onnela provided 9 points on 50% shooting (4-8 FG) off the bench. Davidson out-rebounded Columbia 36–31 and recorded 17 assists on 25 made field goals while turning the ball over just 11 times.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's matchup marks the third all-time meeting between Davidson and Virginia, with the series deadlocked at 1–1. The Wildcats claimed the most recent encounter on Dec. 28, 2014, knocking off the Cavaliers 67–57 at John Paul Jones Arena behind a season-high 24 points from junior Hannah Early, who teamed with senior Lillian McCabe to drain 10 of Davidson's season-best 11 three-pointers. That victory holds special significance on the sideline today, as Hannah Early Vaughn returned to her alma mater this season as an assistant coach.
Head coach Gayle Fulks enters her 10th season at Davidson with 144 career victories. Sitting just one win shy of surpassing Annette Watts (144), Fulks is positioned to become the winningest head coach in Davidson women's basketball history early in the 2026–27 season.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE...
The Wildcats have turned John M. Belk Arena into a tough environment for visiting teams under head coach Gayle Fulks. Davidson posted a 13–3 home record during the 2025–26 campaign. Over the past two seasons, the 'Cats have accumulated a 24–6 home mark inside Belk Arena.
SHARE SHOOT STIFLE...

Virginia enters Thursday's matchup following a dominant 87–45 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday, powered by preseason All-ACC guard Kymora Johnson's 21-point performance. The contest brings a familiar face to Belk Arena in first-year Cavaliers head coach Aaron Roussell, who previously guided Atlantic 10 rival Richmond to back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths.
