STANFORD, Calif. – Just a week after spoiling Senior Day, the Radford Highlanders claimed third place at the 2007 NorPac Championships with a 2-0 win over the Davidson Wildcat field hockey team on Saturday at University Turf Field on the campus of Stanford University.

Davidson finishes the season at .500 with a 10-10 overall record and 3-3 NorPac mark. Its the 'Cats best finish since the 1999 season, when the team went 11-7 overall as a part of the Deep South conference.

Seniors Eleanor Cowley, Ginnie Friddell, 2007 NorPac Player of the Year Kayli Maxwell, Catherine Ransone, Misty Stallings and 2007 NorPac Defensive Player of the Year Jen Willis played their final game in a Wildcat uniform.

Radford finishes the season with an 8-14 overall record and improves to a perfect 4-0 in the third-place game. The 'Cats downed the Highlanders 2-0 in a conference matchup in Farmville, Va., on Sept. 16, but Radford got the best of Davidson in their 3-0 win last Sunday, Oct. 27.

Megan Longtain put RU on the board just 3:25 into the match on a short corner. She deflected Emily Jones' shot for her 10th goal of the season.

The teams went the rest of the half without finding the cage as sophomore keeper Christa Goeke and Radford's Jennifer Wisniewski made three and four saves, respectively.

Radford added the final goal in the 52nd minute, as Jones ripped a low shot to the right of Goeke on a corner to give RU a 2-0 lead. Natalie Bowen and Kay Tufts assisted on the play.

Wisniewski added four second-half saves to finish with eight, while Goeke stopped eight shots for the Wildcats. Davidson out shot Radford, 17-14, with each team earning seven corners. Radford's Stephanie McLamb took a game-high five shots, and Cowley recorded a team best four for the 'Cats.
