Lyons-Harrison fills the role of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for position players.
"We're excited to have John join our program," head coach Rucker Taylor said upon his hiring. "He's a guy that I wanted to be part of what we're doing, and the timing is right for that to happen. He's going to add a lot to what we do. He and his wife, Cassidy, have jumped fully in, and they are great additions."
Lyons-Harrison came to Davidson after serving as an assistant coach for two seasons at Iona College in New York.
"Joining the staff at Davidson is nothing short of a dream come true," said Lyons-Harrison. "This is a special place that gives our student-athletes an incredible experience playing baseball at a high level and a degree that will allow them to excel in whatever they are passionate about off the field. Having coached against Davidson in the past, I developed an immense respect for the program, and I'm thrilled to now be a part of it. I want to thank Coach Taylor for this opportunity, and I can't wait to get to work with our players. Go Wildcats!"
While at Iona, Lyons-Harrison helped the Gaels finish with their most wins since 2017 and put up some of their best offensive numbers since 2001 in categories such as runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, doubles, home runs, hit-by-pitches, total bases and hits.
He coached two First-Team All-MAAC players (Josiah Ragsdale, Jimmy Kemp), two MAAC All-Rookie Team members (Carter Groan, Sean Stephenson) and the 2025 MAAC Rookie of the Year (Stephenson).
Prior to Iona, Lyons-Harrison spent the 2023 season as the director of baseball operations at Notre Dame. He was at Lafayette from 2020 to 2022, serving as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator, while helping the Leopards earn 10 or more conference wins in consecutive seasons for the first time in more than a decade.
Lyons-Harrison also served as Wofford's director of player development in 2019, spent 2017 and 2018 as an advance scouting intern with the San Diego Padres and was the director of baseball operations for the Richmond Spiders in 2016 and 2017.
A native of Burke, Va., Lyons-Harrison earned a degree in kinesiology from VCU in 2016. The Lyons-Harrisons now reside in Mooresville.
