Beginning her second year as assistant coach for the Davidson lacrosse program is Amanda Hughes.
She came to Davidson after serving for three years as one of three directors of laxCharlotte, Inc. and a coach for the Queen City Stars.
As a director, Hughes ran the day-to-day operations of laxCharlotte, Inc. She promoted lacrosse by providing opportunities in the sport to top female athletes to fully develop their talent and skills. She helped maintain and obtain partnerships with athletic organizations, parks and Recreation center and schools. Hughes also developed all marketing material for promoting the program.
As a coach, she focused on individual player development and advanced team strategies/concepts. She also assisted college coaches in evaluating talent in their recruiting purposes.
Hughes is very familiar with the coaching ranks as she was the head varsity coach at Weddington High School from 2004-07. She guided Weddington to the state championship tournament in the third year of the program's existence. In 2007, Hughes was selected the conference coach of the year and twice in her four years at Weddington was chosen as the head coach for The Annaual Queen City All-Star Women's Lacrosse game.
Also while at Weddington, Hughes served as a conference representative for two years, reporting to and working with the Board of Directors for the North Carolina High School Women's Lacrosse Association.
A standout four-year lacrosse player at Duke, Hughes help lead the Blue Devils to four NCAA Tournament appearances and three times (200-02) was a member of the teams that advanced all the way to the Elite Eight. In 2000, Hughes was a recipient of the Karen M. Sutton "Workhorse" award.
In 2007, Hughes was a member of the North Carolina All-American selection committee.
Hughes graduated in 2004 from Duke with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Economics.
