'Cats Fall to UMass in Conference Clash

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats fell to the UMass Minutewomen 17-7 on Saturday, after giving up an early 6-1 scoring run in the first quarter.
The loss moves the 'Cats to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play, while UMass remains undefeated in conference play at 7-0.
UMass was powered by four goals apiece from Ava Connaughton, Lauren Tolve and Tessa Shields, while Josie Lambert led the Wildcats with a hat trick.
After UMass' 6-1 start, the Wildcats used a three-goal run in the second quarter to tighten the gap, 7-4, before UMass solidified its lead for the rest of the day with nine-straight goals. Despite scoring three unanswered late in the fourth quarter, Davidson ran out of time to complete the comeback.
The 'Cats were out-shot 25-15 in shots on goal, while the Minutewomen also won in the draw circle, 19-8.

The 'Cats will return to action next Saturday at home as they take on George Washington. The final home game of the season, and Senior Day, will begin at 12 p.m.
