Wildcats Take Down Rhode Island 17-7 On The Road

KINGSTON, R.I. - Davidson outscored Rhode Island 11-2 in the second half and powered past the Rams 17-7 on Saturday afternoon. Brooke Ross piled up a career-high six goals in the contest. The Wildcats improve to 10-3 (4-2, A-10) and the Rams drop to 5-8 (2-4, A-10).
Rhode Island jumped out to a 4-3 advantage after the first quarter. Four different Rams scored. Brooke Ross led the way for the 'Cats with two goals in that frame.
Celie Shield scored early in the second quarter for the Rams and the home team took a 5-3 lead. Davidson responded with three unanswered goals from Aeryn Curren, Devyn Martinez, and Brooke Ross. The 'Cats led 6-5 at halftime.
The Wildcats outscored the Rams 4-0 in the third quarter with goals from Brooke Ross, Jenna Skibbe, and Jacqueline Callahan. Davidson finished the job with seven goals in the fourth quarter, which so far is tied for the most in a single frame all season. The 'Cats scored seven goals in the fourth quarter against Duquesne last month.
In addition to the offensive explosion from Ross, Katilyn Uller contributed with three goals and two assists. Devyn Martinez added two goals and two assists. Jenna Skibbe also finished with two goals. Allie Hartnett and Jacqueline Callahan each recorded two assists.
On defense, Kayla Joyce had nine saves. Lydia Canavan logged a team-high three caused turnovers and also had three ground balls. Margit Crittenberger scooped up four ground balls.
