1ST AND 10
- Davidson will conclude its 2025 campaign Saturday afternoon when Dayton visits for a 1 p.m. "Senior Day" contest.
- Prior to kickoff, Davidson will honor its 15 senior scholar-athletes, student coaches and managers.
- The Wildcats enter their regular season finale 2-9 and 1-6 in PFL play following a setback at Marist last weekend.
- Offensively, Davidson is led by senior wide receiver Ivan Hoyt, who leads the league in touchdown catches (9), while also ranking among PFL leaders in receptions (2nd / 53), yards (4th / 770) and yards per game (2nd / 77.0).
- Freshman Hudson Altenburg leads the Davidson defense with 70 tackles, which ranks tied for 15th in the conference.
- Four of Davidson's opponents this season have appeared in the FCS Top-25 or received votes.
- Since joining the Pioneer Football League (2001), Davidson is 2-4 against teams ranked in the FCS Top-25 (2021 - at San Diego / 2025 - Presbyterian).
- Dating back to 2018, Davidson has a 36-24 PFL mark, while capturing two regular season crowns and making three FCS Playoff appearances.
- Saturday's meeting will be the 20th all-time between Davidson and Dayton.
- The Flyers, who won last year's game 16-14, lead the series, 17-2.
- In 2022, Davidson's 24-23 victory ended Dayton's run of 10 straight wins over the 'Cats.
- Perhaps, one of the more memorable contests between the two came in 2014 when they played a five-overtime thriller, with the Flyers eventually coming out on top, 54-48.
- After an even first half, Marist scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away from Davidson 37-10 in Pioneer Football League action Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
- The Red Foxes broke a 10-10 tie in the third quarter with a 14-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Sonny Mannino, who did much of his damage through the air Saturday and finished 18-of-24 for 317 passing yards. Marist's next two drives covered 55 and 65 yards and also ended with touchdowns, extending the lead to 30-10 entering the fourth.
- Davidson led 7-3 in the second quarter thanks to an 11-yard touchdown pass from Coulter Cleland to receiver Ivan Hoyt. And a 24-yard Christos Tzoumakas field goal made it 10-10 as the first half clock expired.
- Hoyt finished with eight catches for 88 yards, all in the first half. Andrew Frazier added six receptions for 56 yards, including a 30-yarder in the first quarter.
- Cleland was 19-of-40 passing for 193 yards, the touchdown to Hoyt and an interception.
- The Wildcats were limited to 46 rushing yards, with 41 of those coming from Mason Sheron.
- Hudson Altenburg led the defense with 11 tackles.
- Dayton blocked three field goals and a punt as the Flyers held off Davidson, 16-14, in Pioneer Football League action Oct. 12, 2024 inside Welcome Stadium.
- Davidson had a chance to take the lead with 22 seconds left, but Adam Zouagui's 51-yard field goal attempt came up short.
- Mason Sheron led the Wildcats with a career-high 152 yards on the ground and two scores.
- Both of Dayton's touchdowns came on short fields, as Davidson's defense held one of the league's top-passing offenses to just 110 yards, highlighted by interceptions from Amare Hill and Daniel Carter.
- In all, the Wildcats forced three turnovers on the day.
- Dominic Njoku also had an impressive game for the 'Cats with a career-high 15 tackles.
- Davidson's lone score in the first half came off a 39-yard run from Sheron. His eighth touchdown of the season was set up by the conference's leading rusher, Mari Adams, who had 41 of the 80 yards on the four-play drive.
- Despite having three kicks (2 – FG | 1 – Punt) blocked in the opening 30 minutes, the Wildcats forced a pair of turnovers to trail just 13-7 at the break.
- Sheron later gave Davidson its first lead (14-13) of the afternoon, bouncing for a 44-yard run midway through the third quarter.
- The Flyers, who blocked another field goal attempt with just under four minutes left, took the lead for good on a 25-yard field goal by Danny Baker with 10:03 to go.
