Donovan and Dunn too Much for Iona; ’Cats Cruise to Fourth Straight

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Katie Donovan (23) and Charlise Dunn (19) combined for 42 points to lead Davidson past Iona, 82-52, Sunday afternoon inside John M. Belk Arena.
The Wildcats, who shot 56.9 percent and forced 20 turnovers, improve to 4-1 overall with their fourth straight victory. The Gaels fall to 2-2 on the young season.
For Donovan it was the first time cracking the 10-point plateau this season as she finished 10-of-14 from the floor.
Candice Lienafa also scored in double figures for the 'Cats with 14.
Sparked by three consecutive triples, the Wildcats closed the second quarter on a 15-3 spurt to take a 45-31 lead into the break. Dunn had 19 in the opening 20 minutes, while Donovan chipped in 12.
Davidson led 24-15 at the 8:15 mark before the Gaels responded with a run of their own to make it 30-28.
The 'Cats finished the day with 50 points in the paint, 32 bench points and 28 off turnovers.
Zoey Ward led the way for the Gaels with 21 points on 9-of-19 shooting to go along with eight boards.

Davidson will travel to Orlando where it will take on Miami in the WBCA Showcase Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
