'Cats Welcome Richmond on Team 50 Weekend

10/8/2025 3:35:00 PM | Field Hockey

With six wins in its last seven games, the Davidson field hockey team returns home to host Atlantic 10 rival Richmond Friday at 5 p.m.

It'll be a matchup of teams that are 2-1 in the A-10 standings.

It's the fourth of six A-10 games on Davidson's schedule and starts a stretch in which the Wildcats will play five of the next seven games, including three straight, at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.

TEAM 50 CELEBRATION
The 2025 Davidson field hockey team is the program's 50th, and the Wildcats will mark the occasion with alumni throughout the weekend. That includes on-field recognition prior to Friday's contest.

LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson enters 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the league.
• With a 5-4 win at William & Mary last Sunday, the Wildcats secured at least seven wins for the third straight year.
• Davidson went 7-11 in 2023 and 7-8 last season.
• The last time the Wildcats won more than seven games was in 2015 (8-11).
• Last Friday's 2-1 A-10 loss at VCU snapped a five-game win streak, the team's longest since 2010.
• Also in A-10 play, Davidson defeated La Salle 3-2 on Sept. 19 and topped Lock Haven 5-1 on Sept. 26.

SIB-SATIONAL
• Senior Sib Naaktgeboren continues to be the catalyst as the A-10's top scorer with 14 goals, which is tied for fourth nationally. It's the most goals a Wildcat has scored since Finley Amato also had 14 in 2011.
• Naaktgeboren also leads the A-10 with 33 points and is fifth with five assists.
• A two-time A-10 Second Team selection, Naaktgeboren has scored multiple goals in five games this year, including four at Towson (Aug. 31) and three at William & Mary.
• She was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 and 22.
• Naaktgeboren is climbing the Davidson records and closing in on multiple marks such as single-season goals (18) and single-season points (39), and she is four off the career assists (24) mark.

MULTI-PRONGED ATTACK
• Naaktgeboren has plenty of help, too, as the Wildcats have seven other multi-goal scorers.
• That list includes Matilda Collins, Eva van der Kooi and Lourdes Wolf, who have each scored four goals.
• Celie Constantine, Emelia Little, Ava Mickel and Emilia Ostos have scored two goals apiece.
• Wolf is a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, including this week after scoring a goal against William & Mary. Ostos also has an A-10 Rookie of the Week honor this year.
• Constantine leads the Wildcats and is tied for second in the A-10 with six assists.

SERIES HISTORY
• Richmond has won the last 10 meetings, including the previous two in overtime.
• Last year in Richmond, the Spiders tied the game in the final minute and prevailed 5-4 when Grace Wiggins scored the game-winner early in the extra period.
• In 2024, Davidson tied the game at 2-all in the third quarter before Alexa Derr's overtime goal gave the Spiders the 3-2 win.
• Both Wiggins and Derr are on this year's Richmond team.
• Davidson is seeking its first win in the series since 2015.

SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
• Richmond enters the weekend 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the A-10.
• The Spiders have earned A-10 wins over Lock Haven (8-0 on Sept. 19) and La Salle (2-1 on Sept. 26). They lost 2-1 to Saint Louis on Oct. 3.
• Richmond is coming off a 5-0 win over Ball State last Sunday when Clara Larripa scored four goals. That earned her A-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.
• A two-time A-10 First Team pick, Larripa leads the Spiders with 10 goals and five assists.
• Others to watch include Amy Stripling (5 goals, 1 assist) and Lainey Nichols (4 goals, 1 assist). Derr leads the team with six assists.
