Field Hockey Falls 2-1 at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. — A late goal by Ana Afonso helped VCU edge Davidson 2-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey Friday afternoon.
The loss ended Davidson's five-game winning streak, its longest since 2010. Now 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the A-10, the Wildcats were seeking their first win over VCU since 2015.
Afonso's goal came with 3:49 remaining.
VCU (6-4, 2-0) struck first Friday when Morena Macera converted a penalty stroke midway through the first quarter.
Davidson pulled even in the second quarter with a putback goal by Eva van der Kooi, her third of the season.
The Wildcats held advantages in shots (14-11) and shots-on-goal (9-8), while VCU had more penalty corners (12-11).

Davidson will visit non-conference foe William & Mary on Sunday at noon.
