Field Hockey Falls to Hawks

MERION STATION, Pa. — Saint Joseph's withstood some early offensive threats by Davidson and emerged with a 3-0 Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey win Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the A-10, while the Hawks moved to 8-8 and 3-2. Ava Smith led Saint Joe's with two goals, while Brooke James added one.
Davidson held a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners in the first half, including 5-2 in the opening 15 minutes.
But the Hawks finished with an 11-7 edge in corners and outshot the Wildcats 19-7.
Smith gave Saint Joe's a 1-0 lead with 2:37 left in the first half, then made it 2-0 3:09 into the second 30 minutes.
