Wildcats Fall 1-0 to VCU

DAVIDSON - The Davidson women's soccer team suffered a close 1-0 loss to VCU in its conference opener on Alumni Stadium Thursday night.
The loss moves the Wildcats' record to 4-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Atlantic 10 while the Rams improve to 2-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The difference on the scoreboard was a put back shot by Y-Van Nguyen in the 65th minute, after back-to-back impressive saves by Emily Smith.
Davidson's offense was paced by Maddie Moody and Annaliese Mann who each laid one shot on target in addition to freshman Sophia Whiddon who took two shots over the match.
In 90 minutes of action, Smith tallied a season-high nine saves.
The Rams controlled much of the offensive action, taking 15 shots to Davidson's five and placing 10 on goal to the 'Cats two.
Davidson will set its sights on its first league win when it heads to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to battle Duquesne 1 p.m. Sunday.
