‘Cats Tie ETSU 1-1 in Home Opener

DAVIDSON – The Davidson women's soccer team tied ETSU 1-1 in a game that ended early due to a local power outage Thursday.
With the draw, the Wildcats moved to 1-1-1.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early one-goal lead when Dakota Lyons sent a cross directly to the head of Maddie Moody, who laid a shot into the top of the goal in the second minute of play.
Shortly after, in the 17th minute, the Buccaneers were awarded a free kick following a Wildcat yellow card, and Ruby Teixeira was able to capitalize and knot the score 1-1.
With the score remaining tied into the second half, ETSU held a slight edge offensively over Davidson, taking four shots to the Wildcats' two. However, neither team was able to place a strike on target.
The game clock ticked down to less than 20 minutes remaining when a brief power outage prompted a stoppage. After multiple similar stoppages, the power ultimately remained off, forcing the game to end with 10:12 remaining on the clock.
The match will count as a complete game for both teams and go on the record as a 1-1 tie.
Davidson was paced on offense by Moody, who tallied the team's lone goal as well as Katy Talotta and Aleia Gisolfi-McCready, who each tallied two shots with one on goal.
Emily Smith was the goalie of record for Davidson, making two saves in the match.
The Wildcats will resume their homestand when they welcome Gardner-Webb to Alumni Stadium on 1 p.m. Sunday.
