DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's basketball team fell in its regular season finale to the Fordham Rams on Saturday afternoon, 74-65.
Suzi-Rose Deegan led the way with a team-high 23 points, while Issy Morgan dropped 12. Senior Adelaide Fuller matched her season-high with 10 points and Tomisin Adenupe added another 10.
The Fordham Rams shot 56.7 percent from the field in the first half to pull out to an early lead, including a 4-of-7 effort from beyond the arc, and ended the day 9-of-20 from deep.
Davidson's Australian trio got off to a hot start on Saturday, scoring the Wildcats' first nine points of the game while Deegan and Fuller led the 'Cats to a 6-0 run from opening tip off.
After Morgan hit a 3-pointer to maintain a 9-8 lead, Fordham went on a 7-0 run of its own and built a lead as large as nine, 20-11, before the end of the first quarter. In the final two minutes of the frame, the 'Cats held the Rams scoreless while Deegan and Sutphin closed out with back-to-back layups which cut the deficit to five.
Fordham opened up the second quarter with six unanswered points, creating its largest lead of the game, 26-15, and forcing the Wildcats into an early timeout. The Rams would maintain their 11-point lead, despite buckets from Sallie Schutz and Deegan, until the 3:20-mark after a steal and layup from Asiah Dingle eventually stretched the game to 38-19. Led by two 3-pointers from Adenupe in the final 90 seconds of the half, the Wildcats managed to finish out the frame with an 8-2 run and trail 40-27 at the break.
Fuller and Deegan scored Davidson's first eight points of the second half, but Fordham went shot-for-shot with the duo to extend its lead to 20, 55-35, with 6:17 on the clock in the third.
After entering the final quarter down 16, the Wildcats cut their deficit to 11 with just over four minutes to go after making 5-of-6 field goals and nailing two corner three's from Morgan and Mallorie Haines. A pair of three-point plays from Deegan, plus one final floater from the Aussie, would also put Davidson back within nine in the final minute of play, but the rally would end there as Fordham pulled out the 74-65 victory.
