DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's track and field team is set to compete at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Kingston, R.I. on Saturday and Sunday.
The Wildcats have 22 individual entries in this weekend's championships as well as entrants in the 4x400, 4x800, and distance medley relays. Of the 22 individual entries, Davidson has 17 student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Performance List and 16 of those entries are among the top-10 in the A-10 in their respective event. On top of that, every rostered athlete who has competed this winter has set a new personal-best.
Sprints and Hurdles
Throughout the indoor season, Davidson has impressed in the 60-meter hurdles. All four Wildcats that are entered to compete in the event are inside the top-eight in the conference. On top of that, the 'Cats have the first, second, and third fastest times coming into the weekend led by standout sophomore Jayden Smith. Smith broke the school record twice during the indoor season and comes in with a top time of 7.76. Behind him, veteran Jordan Benson sits second on the performance list with a personal-best time of 7.94. Isaac Bynum ranks third in the conference with a qualifying time of 8.01, and Bryce Anthony is eighth with a best time of 8.21.
Smith is also set to compete in the 200 meters after he broke the school record in the event back on February 10. Smith ran a 21.83 at Boston University and sits fifth on the Atlantic 10 performance list.
In the 400 meters, sophomore Josh Hardin comes into this year's indoor championship with the second fastest-time in the conference. Hardin set a new Davidson record with his sub-48 time of 47.99 back on February 11.
Bryce Anthony made history the first-ever time he ran the 500 meters. The senior from Greensboro set a school record and ran the fastest time in the A-10 with his run of 1:03.68 back on January 27.
Competing in the 60-meter dash for the Wildcats is junior Chinedu Okeke. Okeke set a personal-best time at the JDL College Team Challenge two weeks ago when he ran a 7.05. This ranks inside the top-20 in the conference.
Middle Distance and Distance
Another Wildcat entering the weekend with a top time is senior Joe dosReis. The Rhode Island native sits atop the conference in the mile after he became the first Davidson athlete to run a sub-four-minute mile back in January. His record time of 3:58.34 is four seconds faster than the next best time in the Atlantic 10.
In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Charlie Siebert enters the indoor championships with the 11th fastest time in the conference at 14:22.15. This mark gave Siebert the new school record back on February 11.
Jumps and Throws
The 'Cats have four entrants in field events over the weekend. Dylan Ameres and Jack Curtin will compete in the triple jump as both athletes rank within the top-seven in the A-10 coming into this weekend. Ameres set a new school record with a jump of 14.56 meters on February 3 which broke Jack Curtin's record of 14.36 that he set at the end of January. Curtin's best jump of 14.36 ranks seventh in the Atlantic 10.
Junior Nick Tompkins will compete in the high jump after finishing seventh at last year's A-10 Indoor Championships. It will also be his first meet of the indoor season.
In throws, Jack Stajos will compete in the shot put. Stajos, a sophomore, is coming off his best weekend of the season where he set a new personal-best with a throw of 15.44 meters. This ranks eighth headed into the team's trip to Rhode Island.
