Wildcats Go Wire-to-Wire with Duke

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team nearly took down the Duke Blue Devils in the Duke Family Performance Hall on Friday night. The Wildcats fell by two points, 19-17.
The night began at 157 where sophomore Tanner Peake squared off with Logan Ferrero. It was Peak's third consecutive extra-period match, and the New Jersey native dropped a narrow 2-1 decision.
From there, things picked up for the 'Cats. Senior Bryce Sanderlin came out firing and secured a decisive 7-1 victory to notch things up at 3-3. Then, sophomore Marc Koch bullied his way to a 5-2 win to put Davidson up, 6-3.
The Blue Devils took the 184-bout, but fourth-year man Cameo Blankenship got the 'Cats back in front with an eight-point decision, 11-4, at 197. This gave Davidson a 9-6 advantage.
Duke countered by taking the next three matches behind 13 points to move back ahead, 19-9.
With two matches to go, things heated up when Joshua Viarengo put five on the board behind a dominating 18-3 tech fall to bring the score to 19-14.
Coming down to the wire, freshman Tyler-Xavier McKnight captured a 10-6 victory, his team-leading eighth of the season, in a pin-and-win match.
