'Cats Dominate In 39-12 Win Over Sacred Heart

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team picked up their first dual win of the season with a dominating 39-12 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon.
The 'Cats came out firing as Wyatt Ferguson and Cameo Blankenship each pinned their opponents in the opening two matches. Ferguson secured the win in less than five minutes while Blankenship notched his pin early in the third period.
From there, Jake Fernicola dominated the heavyweight matchup with a 17-2 tech fall to give Davidson a commanding 17-0 lead.
Sacred Heart took the 125 and 133-pound matches to get on the board and make it 17-6, but the Wildcats quickly answered.
Joshua Viarengo picked up from where he left off last Friday by pinning his opponent in three minutes and 38 seconds. At 149, Tyler-Xavier McKnight earned his ninth win of the season after an injury forced Sacred Heart to forfeit the match.
Rounding out the Wildcat victories were Tanner Peake and Bryce Sanderlin. Peake shut out his opponent, 8-0, to pick up the major decision, and Bryce Sanderlin remained undefeated with a pin of his own less than four minutes into the 165-pound bout.

The Wildcats will be back in action at the turn of the new year at Chattanooga's Southern Scuffle on January 1 and 2.
