DAVIDSON, N.C. -- With a 3-0 sweep over Duquesne on Saturday afternoon, the Davidson volleyball team wrapped up its weekend triumph over the Dukes during the first weekend of Atlantic 10 play.
The 'Cats now improve to 2-0 in league play, and 8-5 overall, while Duquesne sits at 0-2 and 3-11.
Junior libero Bella Brady picked up 24 digs in the second game of the series, finishing the weekend with 46 total digs and is just eight shy of reaching her 1,000th dig milestone.
Offensively, Isabel Decker and Anna Withee each hit .265 while recording 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Anela Davis went 8-13 from the middle, while rookie Kayla Davis went 7-12, hitting above .500 for the second straight day. On the block, Emma Slusser finished with a match-high three assists and Sola Omonije, Kayla Davis and Anela Davis each had one solo stuff.
The Wildcats had to work to win the 27-minute first set against Duquesne, as the Dukes hit .151 and held Davidson to just a .088 attacking percentage. Despite the 'Cats taking a 16-8 lead early on, the Dukes climbed all the way back to tie the set at 18-all. As Duquesne had five different opportunities to take the lead, the Wildcats capitalized on Duquesne's service errors and closed out the frame narrowly with kills from Withee and Anela Davis to win it 25-23.
Davidson's offense found its footing for the second (.409) and third (.333) sets, combining for 36 kills and just six errors. In the second, the 'Cats trailed 10-6 before Kayla Davis connected on back-to-back overpasses and Decker struck twice on the outside to regain the lead and pull away with the 25-19 win.
With the third set tied 8-8, Brady then led on a 7-point run from the service line to push the 'Cats ahead, 15-8 advantage, and run away with the 25-13, third set victory.
