DAVIDSON — Add an Atlantic 10 Conference win to the list for the Davidson women's soccer team.
The Wildcats topped Rhode Island 1-0 in Alumni Stadium Thursday night to improve to 8-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the A-10.
"We're happy with the win and to get on the board, but as a team, we're not going to be happy with the overall performance," said coach Adam Denton. "There were parts of it that were good, but we didn't retain possession as well tonight. Yet we're happy we're on the board, and we'll go prepare for St. Bonaventure."
The only score of the night was an own goal to the Wildcats in the 10th minute. It occurred on a ball played into the box from the right side by Charlotte Snead.
"We had three or four numbers in the box that were going to attack that ball, so the defender was in a tough spot and just misplayed it," said Denton.
The Rams threatened with a 10-2 shots advantage in the second half, and Davidson keeper Mary Grace Bunch had to make four saves in the final eight minutes — including diving to her right to secure on and also tipping one up and away — to seal it.
Hailey Braemer had two shots-on-goal to lead the Wildcats, while Aleia Gisolfi-McCready added one.
