Wildcats Clipped by No. 20 Spiders, 15-11

RICHMOND, Va. — The Davidson women's lacrosse team fought until the end of its back-and-forth affair against No. 20 Richmond on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell 15-11 to the nationally ranked Spiders.
Seniors Emily Weld and Emma Johnson paced the Davidson offense all game, as Weld ended with a game-high and career-high five points, off four goals and one assist, while Johnson added three goals of her own.
Overall, Richmond out shot the Wildcats 44-24 and won the battle on the draw, 16-12, while Davidson's keeper, Amanda Monahan, came up with nine saves.
Weld got the 'Cats on the board first from Richmond, striking off a pass from junior Erin Cooke to take the 1-0 lead. The Spiders and Wildcats would trade goals for the next 10 minutes, squared up at 2-2, before Johnson rattled off two-straight goals to give Davidson its largest lead of the day at 4-2.
After one half of play, Davidson trailed just 7-6, and would settle the score after Weld's third goal of the day, before Richmond scored four-straight goals and pulled away with the lead for good.

The Wildcats will conclude the regular season next Saturday at 1 p.m., taking on No. 14/17 UMass at Richardson Stadium.
