Wildcats Fight To The End With No. 13 UMass

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson Wildcats led No. 13 UMass for 46 minutes of Atlantic 10 play on Saturday afternoon, before eventually falling 13-11 in the closing frame of the game.
The 'Cats jumped out aggressively in their final home game of the season, going up 3-0 in just the first three minutes of play thanks to a scoring surge from Gianna New and Emma Johnson. While the Minutewomen would tie up the game, 4-4 at the 11:12-mark in the second, Erin Cooke and Emily Weld rattled off three-straight scores that solidified Davidson's lead at 8-5 going into halftime.
Out of the break, junior Grace Fahey quickly dished a pass inside to New as the 'Cats took their largest lead of the day, 9-5.
From there, the Minutewomen burst into an 8-2 scoring run to pull away with the 13-11 victory in the final minutes.
Overall, UMass out shot Davidson 32-17, while Amanda Monahan made 12 saves in net. The Minutewomen won the battle on the draw, 15-11, including a 6-1 ratio in the third quarter to start the comeback. Sophomore Julianne Carey had a team-high six draws.
