DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson women's basketball team will tip off its 2022-23 season on Monday night, taking on the High Point Panthers from inside the Qubein Center at 5 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
A Win Would
A win on Monday night would mark Davidson's third straight victory dating back to last season. In the 2021-22 campaign, the 'Cats closed out the year with two straight wins at the Women's Basketball Invitational with a 90-65 victory over Northeastern and 66-58 win against Austin Peay. Victory against the Panthers would also be Davidson's first win on opening night since 2019, when the Wildcats downed Georgetown in Belk Arena, 66-52.
The Vets
Davidson returns 11 letterwinners to its roster for the 2022-23 campaign and brings back 81 percent of its offense from a season ago. Chloe Welch, who returned to the Wildcats for a fifth year, averaged 10.7 points per game during her senior season and led the 'Cats in rebounding, averaging 4.9 boards per game. Among those returning also includes Elle Sutphin, Issy Morgan and Suzi-Rose Deegan. Morgan started in Davidson's final 16 games of the year, averaging 8.3 points per game and scoring in double-figures in six of her last eight games. Deegan, who appeared in 16 games last season making seven starts, is also back for the 'Cats after averaging 10.1 points per game in 21-22.
The Sutphin File
Redshirt-junior Elle Sutphin returns to the Wildcats for year two, as she was named to the Atlantic 10's Preseason All-Conference Second Team in October. The Pilot Mountain, N.C. native finished her debut season with the 'Cats averaging a team-best 13.4 points per game and shot 53.2 percent from the field, good for third best across the A-10. The forward also recorded 24 double-digit performances last year, including six 20+ point games and a career-high 32-point performance against Richmond.
Against Newberry
A pair of 19-point performances from Tomisin Adenupe and Elle Sutphin led the Wildcats past Newberry College in dominant fashion during an exhibition match on Thursday night, as Davidson cruised past the Wolves in an 85-51 win. Davidson shot exactly 50 percent on the night, hitting 33 of its 66 shots from the field while draining nine three-pointers.
Big Moments
Davidson's signature victories last season came over two NCAA tournament teams. The Wildcats beat Conference USA Champion, Charlotte, 79-65, during the non-conference season and eventual Atlantic 10 Champion, UMass, 76-67, on Senior Day. In the A-10 tournament, the Wildcats also pushed A-10 Regular Season Champs, and NCAA participant, Dayton to overtime before falling 60-55.
