The Atlantic 10 Conference postseason race is heating up, and two regular-season tests remain for the Davidson women's soccer team.
The Wildcats, now 11-2-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the A-10, will host Richmond Thursday and visit La Salle Sunday to complete the 10-game league slate as the fight continues for spots in the eight-team postseason tournament.
"All the teams are coming down to the wire," said coach Adam Denton. "The league is again very competitive, and everyone is fighting for something. So we're excited to go into the last two games to try to get the points we need."
The Wildcats enter the week tied with UMass for fourth place with 14 points. They are 4-0-2 in their last six matches, including a 1-0 win over Fordham last Thursday when Hailey Braemer scored off a Rachel Schleicher assist in the 51st minute. That was the 11th shutout of the year, a single-season program record, and if the Wildcats win another conference game, that will also be the most A-10 wins in a single season.
Braemer and Aleia Gisolfi-McCready lead the Wildcats with seven points, Braemer with five assists and Gisolfi-McCready with three goals.
STIFLING DEFENSE
Davidson has not been an easy team to score against this year. In fact, the Wildcats lead the conference with a .688 shutout percentage, which ranks fourth nationally, and a .438 goals-against average, which is fifth-best in the country.
The Wildcats have outscored their opposition 24-7, including 8-5 in league play. Only UMass, which defeated Davidson 3-1 last month, has scored multiple goals against the Wildcats this season.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
Richmond comes to town with a 2-4-2 A-10 record and a 3-9-3 mark overall.
The Spiders have won two of their last three games, including victories over George Mason and La Salle, but they lost 1-0 at St. Bonaventure most recently, with the difference being a penalty kick in the 23rd minute.
Emma Coleman leads the Spiders with seven points (2 goals, 3 assists).
Richmond leads the all-time series 6-2-2 and won 3-0 last year, while Davidson won both meetings during the 2020-21 spring season.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
La Salle is 8-7-1 overall and 3-5 in the A-10 as it visits George Mason Thursday night. The Explorers have won two of their previous three, including a 1-0 win over Saint Joseph's last Sunday.
Explorer Kelli McGroarty is one of the A-10's top offensive threats with six goals and 17 points.
Davidson is seeking its first win against La Salle, as the Explorers lead the series 4-0-1. The teams don't see each other much — they haven't played since 2019, with Davidson having met every other league opponent at least once since.
