GENEVA, OHIO — Shelby Stanley took gold and set a school record — twice — Friday to highlight the third day of the Atlantic 10 Championships for the women's swimming and diving team.
Last year's A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, Stanley swam the 100 butterfly in 53.11, after setting the program mark at 53.34 during the morning prelims. Her win is the women's team's sixth of the championships, following three relays (200 medley, 800 free, 200 free) and individual wins by Siena Senn (500 free) and Abby Francis (50 free).
"Really proud of the fight in these Wildcats," said coach John Young. "It's been a steady flow of impressive performances, podium finishes and team records. Looking forward to a big day tomorrow!"
The Wildcats earned podium finishes in two other events Friday. Siena Senn swam to bronze in the 200 free (1:48.38), trimming 0.71 off her time from a year ago.
The 400 medley relay of Julia Goodhead, Sarah Helen Shepherd, Stanley and Abby Francis also took bronze, touching the wall in 3:42.85.
Through three days of competition, the Wildcats have 374 points, good enough for third place behind Richmond (467.5) and Duquesne (394).
Other top performances Thursday came from Shepherd (5th, 400 IM), Francis (8th, 200 free), Hannah Gould (10th, 100 breast) and Goodhead (10th, 100 back). Stanley's 100 fly win helped the Wildcats earn 38 points in the event, as Marissa Lassell (9th), Martha Tripsa (11th) and Chale Jacks (14th) also swam in the night session.
