Shoemaker, Smith Shine on Final Day of A-10s

HAMPTON, Va. — Davidson freshman swimmer Henry Shoemaker earned gold in the 1,650 free, and Fletcher Smith put his name on a program record Saturday during the final day of the Atlantic 10 Championships at Hampton AquaPlex.
Shoemaker swam out front in the meet's longest event (15:09.61) and earned his second medal of the event (500 free, bronze), while Smith set a Davidson mark in the 200 fly (1:45.63) with a fifth-place swim.
Also in the 1,650, Dylan Felt swam fifth (15:23.05) and Davis Moore was eighth (15:41.24).
Felt, Matthew Shnowske, Mitch McClain and Smith also placed fifth in the 400 free relay (2:57.84).
Liam McDonough (200 back, 1:50.60) and Frank Howden (200 breast, 2:01.10) added seventh-place points, and Smith won the 200 back B final.
Ann Thompson led the Davidson women with a sixth-place finish in the 200 back (1:59.53).
In the team scores, the men totaled 420 points and placed fifth among seven teams. The women were ninth of 10 with 169 points.
