GENEVA, OHIO — Davidson's Shelby Stanley earned Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer honors with another strong day in the pool to lead the Wildcats on Saturday, the final day of the A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships.
A day after winning the 100 butterfly in a Davidson-best 53.11, Stanley won the 200 fly in 1:57.82, improving on not only the mark she set last year as a freshman but also on her record-setting prelims time (1:59.59).
"I'm thrilled to see Shelby's performances recognized with her Most Outstanding Performer honor," said coach John Young. "She was great this week in her individual events, on our relays and on deck with her teammates. And she's just begun to explore her considerable potential."
Overall, the Wildcats totaled 515 points and finished third in the team tally, matching their best-ever finish (2016) as Richmond took the team championship.
"The 'Cats were outstanding and so much fun all week," said Young. "Too many standout performances to name, led by the seniors who showed so much heart here, every one of them. I'm thankful for and proud of what they've done as Wildcats."
Stanley's Saturday win was the seventh of the meet for the Wildcats, and she was part of five of them, also including three relays (200 free, 200 medley and 800 free). She also earned silver in the 50 free and bronze with the 400 medley relay unit.
Also Saturday, Abby Francis swam to silver in the 100 free (50.09), and the 400 free relay team of Siena Senn, Anna Linzell, Sarah Helen Shepherd and Francis also placed second (3:24.62).
Senn took bronze in the 1,650 free with a time of 16:43.56, with teammate Sylvia Stewart-Bates (16:46.59) touching the wall next in a 3-4 finish.
Other top-10 finishes included Shepherd (6th, 200 breast), Marissa Lassell (9th, 200 back) and Kate Pottle (10th, 1,650 free).
