DAVIDSON, N.C. -- After coming out of a 17-day stretch with no contests, the Davidson Wildcats looked to get back in the win column this afternoon, taking on their conference rival Fordham University. Despite winning the first quarter, 12-11, the 'Cats shot just 2-of-15 in the second as the Rams pulled away to an eight-point lead and never looked back, ultimately downing Davidson, 73-55.

Davidson had just two scorers reach double figures today, with Suzi-Rose Deegan and Chloe Welch tallying 15 and 11 points, respectively. Welch recorded eight of her 11 in the fourth quarter alone, while Deegan grabbed nine boards and three steals. Cassidy Gould and Adelaide Fuller were steady forces offensively, as Gould scored eight and Fuller had nine of her own. The duo also combined for nine rebounds.

Today's highly anticipated rematch got off to a slow start, as both the Wildcats and Rams held one another scoreless through the first three minutes of work. Fordham would find the basket first and start out on a 5-0 run before Cassidy Gould hit two straight baskets and kept the game at bay, as the 'Cats trailed 7-4 early. With help from Deegan and Fuller, Gould was able to get Davidson its lone lead of the day, and head into the second quarter with a 12-11 advantage.

Fordham responded to the early deficit in the second frame, and opened up the quarter on an 11-4 run, ultimately holding Davidson to just eight points off 13.3 percent field goal shooting. The Wildcats vastly improved their shooting in the third, hitting 40 percent from the field, but could not match the Rams' offensive surge as they torched the nets for 53.8 percent and scored a game-high 23 points.

The Wildcats found their rhythm in the final 10 minutes of work, as they matched Fordham's 22-point effort and were powered by Welch's eight fourth-quarter points. Davidson also tied the Rams in fourth quarter boards with 10 apiece, while each team hit four three-pointers during the last stretch of the game.

On the day, Fordham won on the glass with 42 rebounds, compared to 34 for the 'Cats, but Davidson had a strong day from the charity stripe, hitting 10-of-12 chances.

The Wildcats will return to play on Friday, Feb. 5 to continue A-10 play in Richmond. Davidson will take on VCU Friday night, and Richmond on Sunday afternoon.
