DAVIDSON, N.C. -- All nine, active Wildcats recorded at least one point, rebound and assist as Davidson powered past the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, 85-56, in its home opener on Wednesday night.
Sarah Konstans recorded the first double-double of her career, and Cassidy Gould scored 18 first-half points, as the 'Cats shot 43.7 percent from the floor.
CSU kept it a five-point game through the first quarter, before Davidson burst into an 18-3 run through the final 7:16 of the first half, including 10 straight Wildcat points.
Gould was 6-of-7 from the field in the first 20 minutes and also had eight of her nine boards in the half, as Davidson built a 41-23 lead by the intermission.
Konstans and Katie Turner opened up the second half with three-pointers on two straight possessions to extend the Wildcats' lead to 21. Welch's 17 points and five assists allowed Davidson to keep a steady lead, in addition to the 'Cats' 49 rebounds and 32 points in the paint.
Davidson also held a 21-9 assists advantage, as Turner led the team with six dishes.
The 'Cats shot 40 percent from beyond the arc (14-of-35), with three players connecting on at least three three-pointers, led by Gould's 4-of-7 performance. Konstans went a perfect 3-for-3 and Kelly Fitzgerald was also 3-of-6 from deep. Davidson's 14 three-pointers tonight matches a school record that the 'Cats set last season, when they hit 14 treys against Western Carolina.
Davidson improves to 1-3 on the year and will be back in action on Friday night when the 'Cats visit Appalachian State at 6 p.m.
