Wildcats Head to App State for Friday Night Tilt

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats will look to win their second-straight game on Friday night, taking on, former Southern Conference foe, Appalachian State. This will be the third meeting between the 'Cats and Mountaineers during Head Coach Gayle Fulks' tenure, as tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Boone, N.C.

LAST TIME OUT... The 'Cats won their first game of the season on Wednesday afternoon, trouncing Charleston Southern, 85-56, inside Belk Arena. In the match up, Davidson tied its program record with 14 made three's, while all nine active players recorded at least one point, rebound and assist.

VS. THE MOUNTAINEERS... Friday's tilt will be the 23rd meeting between the two teams since the 2003-04 season. Since then, the Mountaineers hold the series advantage, at 12-11. In their last three meetings, the outcome has been decided by a combined seven total points. Davidson's current senior class has scored a combined 67 points against App State throughout their careers.

WELCH'S WAY... Junior guard Chloe Welch has had a breakout start to the season, scoring a team and career-high 23 points against No. 12 Maryland and Wake Forest in back-to-back games. The Colorado native scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game against Charleston Souther on Wednesday, and has shot 44.8 percent from the floor overall this season.

HEY MS. CARTER... After playing only nine games as a freshman, Peyton Carter has worked her way into Davidson's lineup, starting the Wildcats' last four games. This season, she is averaging 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, and set a career-high last week, notching 12 points against FGCU. Carter's career-high also marked her first performance scoring in double-figures.

SCOUTING APP STATE... The Mountaineers are 2-1 thus far this season, picking up wins over Charlotte and UNC Asheville before falling to Virginia Tech last week on the road. App State averages 67.7 points per game off 32.5 percent shooting from the floor. Pre Stanley leads her team with 20.7 points per game to go along with teammate Brooke Bigott, who is shooting 55.6 percent from beyond the arc off 10-of-18 shooting.

RAINING THREE'S... Through four games this season, Davidson currently ranks 26th in the country for made three-pointers, averaging 8.8 per game and draining 35 total.

MAKING HER MARK... Chloe Welch is making a splash among national and conference rankings, sitting 38th nationally for final points (79), 72nd in points per game (19.8), and 32nd for field goals made (30). Her 19.8 points per game average is good for fifth among all A-10 players. 

GOULD AS GOLD... Junior Cassidy Gould has grown into her veteran leadership position this season, as she averages a team-high 33 minutes per game. Over the opening four-game stretch, she has averaged 14.5 points per game and has a team-best 10 made three-pointers. Last time out against the Bucs, Gould scored 18 first-half points en route to boasting a career-high 22-point performance. The Australian native ranks 50th in the nation for made three-point field goals and fourth in the Atlantic 10 for three-pointers per game (2.50).
