DAVIDSON, N.C.  –
Western Carolina broke up a scoreless game with a late goal and Davidson was unable to counter in the closing minutes in falling 1-0 Thursday night in women's soccer at Alumni Stadium.

A goal in the 84th minute proved to be the difference as both teams were fairly even throughout the game, controlling possession on and off.

Comments from head coach Adam Denton
"First half we were second-best throughout the half, but did have the best opportunity in the half which we didn't make the most of. We defended well, just didn't do enough with the ball when we had it. The second half was different, we created more chances and had more moments in the final third of the game. We again defended well until about six minutes left and miss-played a long ball and Western reacted quicker than we did. It's disappointing and we've got to learn from these things because we've been playing well in games and just need to put it all together to get the results we want."

Quick Hits From the Game:
•Davidson and Western went into halftime knotted at 0-0, the second time this year the Wildcats have held the opposition scoreless in the first half.
•The game-winner came at the 83:43 mark off the foot of Julia Winter, who took a long ball from Reily Nelson and after a Wildcat defender missed clearing out the ball, dribbled in a few steps and took the open shot.
•Davidson got a corner with 5:30 left in the game, but was unable to create a scoring chance.
•It also earned a free kick with under a minute to go near midfield, but again Western halted the 'Cats last ditch effort to try and score the equalizer.
•Western Carolina had an 11-7 edge on shots, while Davidson won the corner battle at 5-2.
Sarah L'Hommedieu came up with five saves in goal to give her 18 on the season.
Cameron France had a team-best two shots on the night.

Davidson fell to 2-3 on the season, while the Catamounts ran their record to 3-1.

Next Up:
The Wildcats stay at home to face Georgia Southern Sunday in a 2 p.m. contest, with Senior Day honors coming prior to the game.
