BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Kellan Grady scored 18 points each and Davidson closed on a 10-0 run to defeat Saint Joseph's, 70-60, in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship Friday at the Barclays Center.
With the win, the second-seeded Wildcats improve to 24-8 overall and will play No. 6 Saint Louis in tomorrow's semifinal at 3:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
Gudmundsson, the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, also finished with 11 rebounds and 6 assists for his ninth double-double of the season.
Luka Brajkovic and Carter Collins also scored in double figures for Davidson with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
After Charlie Brown hit a pair of free throws to even the score 60-60 with 2:21 to play, Gudmundsson sparked the Wildcats' game-winning spurt with a 3-point play and dunk in consecutive trips to put his club up for good.
Brown led the way for Saint Joseph's (14-19) with 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half, which featured eight ties and eight lead changes, before Gudmundsson's reverse layup beat the horn and put the 'Cats up 27-26 at the break.
Davidson, which has advanced to the semifinals of its conference tournament for the eighth straight season, finished with a commanding 49-31 advantage on the glass.
The Wildcats started the second half 8-for-8 from the floor and shot 61.5 percent in the period to finish the game at 41.3 percent.
