KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Sabine Chandler continued her stellar final season with a game-winning goal in overtime to help send Davidson to a 1-0 win on the road Thursday evening at Rhode Island in Atlantic 10 women's soccer inside URI Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats' (8-3-2, 3-0-1 A-10) set a new school record with their eighth straight shutout, topping the seven in a row by the 1999 team, and kept their overall unbeaten streak intact at eight games (6-0-2), which is the longest since 2009. The win also was the 'Cats' third straight on the road.
For Chandler, it was her first game-winner of the season and third goal overall as she beat the Rhode Island (3-6-3, 0-3-1 A-10) keeper to a free ball for the winning score at the 97:01 mark.
Comments from head coach Adam Denton
"Really happy with the overall performance tonight. We had good moments throughout the game, but did not make the most of our opportunities we created. We continued to create in overtime and got a little luck when needed at a key moment and capitalized to get the victory. The players are really happy to get our first A-10 victory on the road and another shutout."
Quick Hits From the Game:
•Chandler sealed the win in the 98th minute when she beat the Rams' keeper to a free ball near the top of the box and got just enough touch on the shot to slowly roll the ball past the goal line for the winner.
•The senior has three goals and an assist to tie for the team lead with seven points, all career bests.
•The shutout is Davidson's eighth in a row and ninth overall on the year.
•It was playing in overtime for the second consecutive game and fourth time overall this year, moving to 1-1-2.
•The Wildcats won the shot count, 12-5, and put eight of those shots on goal.
•Michele Manceaux and Cameron France each fired off three shots, giving them 27 and 26, respectively, on the season.
•Goalkeeper Mary Grace Bunch, A-10 Defender of the Week the past two weeks, tallied yet another shutout with two saves. She has yet to allow a goal, registering her fifth straight shutout.
Next Up:
Davidson continues on the road with a 1 p.m. contest at Dayton this Sunday, Oct. 6.
