DAYTON, Ohio – Davidson grabbed an early lead on the road in the first half, but Dayton scored three unanswered goals in a 17-minute span to take a 3-2 comeback win over the Wildcats, snapping their eight-game unbeaten streak Sunday afternoon in Atlantic 10 women's soccer inside Baujan Field.
The Wildcats (8-4-2, 3-1-1 A-10) dropped their first league game and first game overall since a setback to Western Carolina, Sept. 5. Their eight-game unbeaten streak (6-0-2) was the longest since 2009.
Sabine Chandler and Seeley Yoo helped the 'Cats to a 2-0 lead at the break, before the Flyers (5-6-2, 3-1-1 A-10) answered in the second half.
Comments from head coach Adam Denton
"Really disappointed with the result today. We had a very poor 10-minute spell at the start of the second half, which ultimately changed the momentum of the game. We have to learn from this. All A-10 games are going to be a battle and managing momentum at key moments in games is part of the challenge, especially on the road. We will learn from this and move on quickly. We will be looking forward to getting back to campus and preparing for one game next weekend when we face George Mason on Sunday.
Quick Hits From the Game:
•Davidson struck first when the senior duo of Sabine Chandler and Michelle Manceaux hooked up at the 27:13 mark for a 1-0 lead.
•Chandler scored her second goal of the weekend and fourth overall to give her a team-best nine points, while Manceaux registered her first assist on the season and seventh point overall.
•The lead was increased to 2-0 thanks to senior Seeley Yoo's second goal of the year at the 36:32 mark and it would remain that score going into halftime.
•Four minutes into the new half at 48:50, Dayton broke through with a goal from Landy Mertz and then tied the game up at 55:30 behind Mertz's assist off a goal from Alexis Goins.
•The Flyers finished off their 17-minute scoring surge with the game-winner at the 65:47 mark from Jessica Sheldon, with assists coming from Goins and Laney Huber.
•The trio of Mertz, Goins and Sheldon had a goal and an assist each during the three-goal output.
•Davidson did manage four more shots in the final 13 minutes of play, but each one went wide of the frame.
•Dayton had a 17-13 edge in shots and earned five corners to the Wildcats' two.
•Goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedieu returned after missing the previous four games and came up with six saves.
