DAVIDSON — The Davidson volleyball team returns to action Friday night when it hosts A-10 leader VCU at 6 p.m. in Belk Arena.
Â
The Wildcats are coming off a 1-1 start to the A-10 schedule last weekend, when they posted a 3-1 win over Duquesne and lost 3-0 to La Salle. The match with VCU is the only one on the Wildcats' docket this weekend.
"I always enjoy competing against VCU," said Davidson coach Chris Willis. "They play at a high level year in and year out. It gives us an opportunity to test ourselves against a physical team that plays a complete game offensively and defensively."
Â
Davidson is in a stretch of playing 11 of 12 matches at home, and that run concludes with home matches against Fordham and Rhode Island Oct. 11 and 13, respectively.
Â
Crosley atop the A-10
Davidson junior middle blocker Ellie Crosley continues to lead the A-10 with a .381 hitting percentage.
Â
Her top effort came Sept. 17 at Charlotte, when she converted 15 of 25 attacks (.600) without an error.
Â
Freshman Madeline Wynn, now a three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week honoree, ranks third in hitting percentage (.325) and is second in blocks per set (1.31). Junior Sydney Champaigne ranks third in assists per set (9.0).
Â
Scouting the Rams
VCU is riding a five-match win streak, which began with a 3-1 win over North Carolina on Sept. 20.
Â
The Rams are 2-0 in the A-10, with wins over La Salle and Duquesne and feature one of the league's top players in senior middle blocker Jasmin Snead, a first-team All A-10 pick last season. Snead leads the league with 1.49 blocks per set. The Rams are the top blocking team in the A-10, as Jaelyn Jackson averages 1.25 blocks per set (third).
