Field Hockey Hosts Weekend Set with Rider and LIU Brooklyn

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson welcomes Rider and LIU Brooklyn for a pair of non-conference field hockey clashes at Belk Turf Field Friday and Sunday. The 'Cats take on Rider at 6 p.m. Friday and LIU Brooklyn Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Cats came alive in the second half, scoring a pair of goals to defeat Towson at Belk Turf Field last Sunday, 3-1. Senior Courtney Byler netted the eventual game-winner, while classmate Leigha Nortier added an insurance goal to seal the 'Cats first win of the young season. Fellow senior Kristin Kisa scored Davidson's first goal of the season to break open the game in the first frame. Wildcat netminder Sarah Zeszotarski made six stops in the winning effort.
SCOUTING THE BRONCS
Rider travels south to Davidson following a season-opening loss at Drexel last Sunday, 8-2. Marion Waterkeyn scored the Broncs first goal of the season just two and half minutes in, but the Dragons rattled off four consecutive goals en route to the covincing victory. Tess Coorens added Riders' second goal in the second half, while Lena Vandam made five saves in the losing effort.
Rider was selected fourth of six teams in the MAAC Coaches Poll, with Vandam, Kaitlyn Flemming, Alison Amen, and Jessica Randazzo earning Preseason All-MAAC honors.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Wildcats and Broncs are tied 2-2 all-time dating back to their first meeting in 2000. Rider handled Davidson on neutral ground last season, claiming a 5-1 victory in the Nation's Capital.
SCOUTING THE BLACKBIRDS
LIU Brooklyn opened the first weekend of play 0-2, falling to Saint Louis (2-0) and Colgate (2-1). Jenna Chrabolowski scored the team's lone goal against Colgate. Molly Jannell started both games in cage for LIU, making 18 saves.
The Blackbirds visit Appalachian State Friday before hitting Belk Turf Field Sunday for their clash with the 'Cats.
