MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Davidson track and field sent a pair to compete at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier Sunday at Ray McDonald, Sr. Track and Field/Lacrosse Complex.
The "last chance meet" allowed a few Wildcats to further improve their chances at qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminary Round or to get another fast race under their belt before the postseason.
Sophomore Carly Peters placed second in the javelin throw, marking a toss of 41.79-meters (137'1) on her first attempt of the day. The Eagleville, Pa., native marked a season-best throw of 44.33m (145'5) at the Gamecock Invitational on Apr. 7 and placed second at the Atlantic 10 Championships in the event.
Junior Sean Caveney sits comfortably in 45th overall on the Men's East Region performance list and used the Final Qualifier as a tune-up for the champs in Tampa. Caveney, the A-10 400-meter hurdle champion, took seventh overall and was the sixth collegian to cross the line, stopping the clock in 52.86 seconds.
Caveney, along with Sarah Sears and Caroline Yarbrough in the women's 5k, will make the postseason field, while junior Dylan Carmack has a strong chance to make it into the men's 5k at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round in Tampa, Fla. starting Thursday, May 24.
