DAVIDSON, N.C. – Little separated the Davidson and UNC-Asheville women in the Charles A. Cannon Pool Saturday, but ultimately, the Wildcats had two more points.
Davidson edged UNCA by a 140-138 margin on a day the Wildcats also earned a 212-64 victory over Virginia Military Institute.
"The wins are nice, but the real delight was the way the women embraced the opportunity to compete for each other and for Davidson," said Wildcats coach John Young. "They raced with purpose all day. The captains deserve credit for setting the tone with their own performances, and the whole team can feel proud knowing that this was a total team effort. Every point counted."
Davidson won six events in its home pool to come out on top of a back and forth battle with the Bulldogs.
Freshman Hope Carpenter continued the strong start to her college career with wins in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events, posting times of 58.73 and 2:08.47. She also swam the opening leg of Davidson's victorious 4x100 medley relay team, joining Hannah Gould, Isabella McElrath and Maggie Farrell to post a 3:55.94.
Farrell and McElrath swam to individual wins as well, with Farrell winning the 100 free (53.39) and McElrath taking the 100 butterfly (57.63).
Davidson's other win came in the final event of the day, the 50 free relay. Alexis LeMone, Anabelle Durham, Meredith McGill and Farrell touched the wall in 1:40.32.
