AUSTIN, Texas — Davidson senior diver Annica Valmassei has been named to the 2024-25 Academic All-America® women's swimming & diving team, selected by the College Sports Communicators and announced Tuesday.
A senior chemistry major from Lake Lotowana, Mo., Valmassei is a two-time Atlantic 10 champion and two-time A-10 All-Academic honoree. She's been named an All-American by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) three times.
"I'm delighted that Annica's considerable successes as a scholar-athlete are being celebrated by her selection as a CSC Academic All-American," said Davidson head coach John Young. "She is an exemplar of 'Athletics Done Right,' and I am proud and grateful that she has learned and performed at a level befitting this recognition."
In February, Valmassei won her second A-10 title in 3-meter diving, posting a score of 303.15. She also competed in the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships for the fourth time.
"Annica always puts her best foot forward, leading by example and displaying a tremendous work ethic in the classroom and in the pool," said Davidson diving coach Greg Ferrucci.
While also competing in the pole vault with the Davidson track and field team, Valmassei is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the prestigious academic honor society, and the Gamma Sigma Epsilon National Chemistry Honor Society. In 2023, she was awarded the Davidson College Porter Vinson Chemistry Award, which recognizes one rising junior. Additionally, she is active in Warner House, has served as a CatsCare mentor and has volunteered at a physical therapy clinic.
Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators, Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, as well as the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions.
Outstanding student-athletes are nominated for Academic All-District recognition by communications directors and must have a minimum 3.50 GPA and meet high athletic standards. A select group of student-athletes advanced to the national ballot, where CSC members voted on Academic All-America teams.
