RICHMOND, VA. – Hope Carpenter became a top-10 Davidson performer in the 100-yard backstroke to highlight the second day of action at the Richmond Duals, where the Wildcats met George Mason on Saturday.
The freshman from Greensboro swam the 100 back in 57.92 to defeat George Mason and tie for ninth on the program's top performers list, with her time being the only on the list to come in a dual meet. She also placed second in the 200 back (2:06.46).
Isabella McElrath continued her strong performance in Richmond by winning the 100 butterfly (58.39), while Hannah Gould swam the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.47 for a win over the Patriots. Davidson also beat George Mason to the wall in the 400 medley relay, as Carpenter, Virginia Gilliland, McElrath and Maggie Farrell finished in 3:56.82, highlighted by Farrell's 52.79 split to end it.
"The 'Cats looked great winning the medley," said Davidson coach John Young. "All four splits were strong as the women won in convincing fashion.
Young was also impressed with Chelsea Savage's 18:24.65 time in the mile, Siena Senn's 1:57.54 in the 200 free and Frances Resweber's performances in the 200 and 500 frees, which she swam in 1:57.50 and 5:18.15, respectively.
George Mason finished with a 183.5-103.5 advantage in team scoring.
"We were in the races where Mason out-touched us, and competed well throughout," said Young. "Overall, a very promising morning."
