DAYTON, Ohio – Davidson's Peyton Aldridge scored a game-high 24 points, but it wasn't enough, as Jalen Crutcher hit a 3-pointer with 56 seconds left to lift Dayton over the Wildcats, 65-64, Tuesday at UD Arena.
Down 55-46 late, Davidson (10-8, 5-2 A-10) went on a 13-3 run capped off by a Kellan Grady layup, to go in front, 59-58, with 2:22 to play.
The two teams then traded buckets, before Crutcher connected on the eventual game-winner to end the Wildcats' five-game winning streak.
Despite the setback, Jon Axel Gudmundsson added 14 points and Will Magarity turned in his best game of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the 'Cats.
Trey Lander led Dayton (10-10, 4-4 A-10) with 16 points, while Josh Cunningham (15), Darrell Davis (14) and Crutcher (12) also scored in double figures.
Davidson, which didn't score until the 13:19 mark of the opening half, trailed 12-0 but quickly responded with 11 unanswered. The Flyers stretched the margin back to double digits before the Wildcats cut the deficit to 31-26 at the break.
Dayton shot 60 percent after intermission to finish at 49 percent. Davidson shook off the sluggish start to shoot 47.2 percent, including 10-of-23 from long range.
After the Wildcats scored 12 straight to take their first lead, 40-39, with 13 minutes to play, Dayton had another answer and went back in front by nine.
Up Next
Davidson will begin a brief two-game homestand Sunday when Richmond visits Belk Arena for a 2 p.m. tip.
