LEXINGTON, Ky. –
Three Davidson track and field athletes are set to compete at the 2017 NCAA East Preliminary Round beginning Thursday, May 25 at the Outdoor Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

On the men's side, senior Will Brewster returns to the East Prelims for the second consecutive year, while sophomore Sean Caveney makes his debut following a stellar season in the hurdles. Wildcat freshman Carly Peters burst onto the scene in the outdoor opener at the Charlotte 49er Classic and carried the momentum to a third place finish in the javelin at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships.

Peters shattered the women's javelin record in her first collegiate meet, stretching the tape 45.91-meters (150'7) and ranks 39th in the region. She currently holds the six best throws in program history.

Brewster enters ranked 46th in the 5,000-meters with a seed time of 14:11.04 set at the Penn Relays. The veteran looks to improve on his 36th place result in 2016.

Caveney boasts a 400-meter hurdle time of 52.53 seconds, 48th in the region. The sophomore scored in both 400 and 110-meter hurdle events at the A-10 Champs, setting new personal bests in each.

Caveney will open up the competition for the 'Cats, toeing the line in the 400 hurdle prelims on Thursday, May 25 at 5:00 p.m. Finals for the event are scheduled for Friday at 7:15 p.m. Peters will make her first throw Thursday at 4:00 p.m., while Brewster takes on the 5k Saturday at 8:25 p.m. Reminder, all times are subject to change.

Davidson has sent an athlete to the East Region Prelims every year since 2012, including the trio going to Kentucky this week, the 'Cats have sent 10 total athletes in that span. Erin Osment '15 is the last to move on to the NCAA Championship, qualifying for the 10k at the 2015 prelims.

The top-five competitors from each heat, and the next two best times, advance to the NCAA National Championship to be held June 7-10 at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
